album tributes : Thank You, Lord

Pastor Cash "Papa" Cagle has been a part of our family from the beginning of
our marriage. (and then some) I met Cash and Jeannette Cagle when they
came to pastor the Westminster Church in the mid 1970s. They quickly
became like second parents to me and I began spending as much time with
them as I could. Like all pastors, Cash and Jeannette moved on to another
church and sadly, the contact with them began to diminish.
Soon after Alec and I got married, we located them in Tennessee and went to
visit them. We kept in contact for a while but lost contact with them.
In the year 2000, we finally caught up with them again and went to visit them
in Tennessee. Amanda and Jesse fell in love with them instantly and we
began to try to visit at least twice a year. They nicknamed the Cagles, "Papa
and Nana".
The best part of those trips was interacting with "Papa". He would act like
Elvis Presley at times and sing just like him. He was funny and would try to
do things to get us all to laugh. He would always tease Alec by telling him
that he was going to turn off the hot water when Alec took his shower. (He
actually did one time when we first went down to see them and he never let
Alec forget!)
Cash was burdened with many medical troubles and he worsened each time
we saw him. He had congestive heart failure, liver troubles, cancer, and many
other ailments. We began to spend all our holidays and took long weekends
to go visit with him before he passed on. We did this for five years until his
health failed and he passed away. We stayed with him for the last two weeks
of his life until he took his last breath.
We know God was with Him throughout his life and we know that we will see
him again when God comes to take us all home.
